
Research data sharing
There is an increased emphasis on managing and sharing data produced in research. The general expectation is that publicly funded research data are a public good, and should be made openly available with as few restrictions as possible.
University of Cambridge Research Data Management Policy Framework
To advise researchers on the best practice of research data sharing, the University of Cambridge has approved the new University of Cambridge Research Data Management Policy Framework
The aim of this policy framework is to:
- provide guidance to all University academics, staff and students on research data management
- ensure that the University undertakes appropriate institutional steps to help its academics to adhere to good data management practice (and to meet the policy requirements University funders).
Funder’s policies
Many of the research funders supporting work at the University of Cambridge require that research data are openly available with as few restrictions as possible. Additionally, some funders (BBSRC, NERC, EPSRC, and ESRC) introduced sanctions for non-compliance with their research data sharing policies.
