Timesheets

As part of the Terms and Conditions of some of our research funders, they require evidence of an individual’s time worked on an award. These sponsors include the Research Councils (RC), European Commission (EC) and National Institute of Health (NIH).

It is important to note that these timesheets need to be completed and signed by the individual undertaking the work on a monthly basis.  It is equally important to ensure that the supervisor also signs it monthly.

In addition it is good practise to fill in a single timesheet each month for all work rather than multiple timesheets for the various projects. An example template can be found here http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/research/documents/local/managing/timesheet.zip

Further information regarding timesheets can be found on our website

Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Support Letters

There has been a further increase in the number of calls where sponsors request a support letter from the Vice-Chancellor or Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) to be submitted with funding applications. This is a reminder of the procedure for obtaining such letters, colleagues are asked to pass this guidance on to any relevant colleagues.

In order to allow sufficient time for the review and signing of letters, requests for a support letter must be submitted to the Research Strategy Office (researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk) 10 (ten) working days ahead of the sponsor's deadline or other institution's deadline (if another HEI is the lead on the application), whichever is sooner. We shall endeavour to return the signed letters as soon as possible and at the latest 24 hours before the deadline.

When submitting a request for a support letter please:

  • Confirm with the sponsor whether the VC/PVC Research needs to sign the letter or whether this could be done by the Head of School or Department
  • Confirm that the Head of Department supports the proposal and commitment offered in the support letter
  • Submit the draft support letter, link to the call document and the outline of the proposal

Further details, including guidance on drafting a support letter are available here: http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/rso/restricted/letters/
