fEC Rates Changes
This is an advance notice that the University, in line with fEC guidelines, has to implement revised full economic cost rates from 1 February each year. More information regarding these changes will be available in the next Bulletin.
Please note that pFACT will not be available on the morning of Friday 1st February (8am to 12noon), in order to update these new University fEC rates.
As a consequence of the fEC rate changes, please be reminded of previous advice that any applications with an actual deadline of 1 February 2013 should be treated as if the deadline is 31 January instead. Any applications submitted on the 1 February will only have the basic plus fEC checks.
fEC and its Impact on your Grants
It is anticipated that the University’s New Costing Tool (X5) will be rolled out across the University within the next few months.
In preparation for this event, the Research Operations Office will be holding a number of briefing sessions on fEC and the impact it has on the grants submitted by the University.
This invitation is open to all staff who would appreciate a more in-depth explanation as to how this methodology affects the various aspects of Costing and Pricing and the influence of the Income Allocation Policy adopted by the University.
Should you wish to attend, please would you email: Debbie.West-Lewis@admin.cam.ac.uk indicating your preference.

Changes to BBSRC requirements for grant applications
These changes relate to the page length for the case for support and other attachments. The case for support (including track record) for all future applications to BBSRC standard grant schemes will be contained within 8 pages rather than the variable page length that has been used previously. The changes will help to harmonise processes with other Research Councils and further details on the changes will be published soon.
In order to apply these changes, it is necessary to delay the launch of the new responsive mode grant round by one week.
The next round was due to go live on 10 January, with a closing date of the 24 April. However, this round will now go live on 17 January. The closing date for the round remains at 24 April.
