Salary scales in X5 and Worktribe

Salary scales in X5 and Worktribe will be updated to include the new University Payscales (subject to approval by the Regent House) on Thursday 31st October between 07:00 and 09:00. X5 and Worktribe will be unavailable at these times.

Users will be advised once the payscales have been updated with guidance on any steps required to update costings.

Horizon Europe audit costs

In line with the current service fees for EC grant audits, ROO recommends budgeting a one-off fee of £7,000 (inclusive of VAT) in your grant proposal. In Horizon Europe, audit costs should be budgeted if the expected total EU contribution received by University of Cambridge is over €430,000. The audit fee is fixed, regardless of the size of the project.

The 2025 Consolidator Grant call crib sheet is now available on the ROO website and includes this audit figure. The 2025 Synergy Grant call crib sheet has been updated to reflect this increased rate.

For lump sum-funded projects, audit fees should not be included in the costing as financial audits are not required.

Applications open for the Research Grants Administration Programme - January 2025

The Research Operations Office (ROO) invites Expressions of Interest for the Research Grants Administrator Programme from all departmental professional support staff at the University who play an active role in the grants lifecycle, whether that be pre-award, post-award or contracts.

The training programme will take place over 5 half days between January and March 2025 and offers a range of benefits to participants including greater understanding of how the parts of the grants lifecycle fit together, tips for providing advice to academics and an extended network of contacts.

Applications to be on the programme need to be submitted by Monday 9th December 2024 and there are 15 places available. Further details and the Expression of Interest form are available on the Research Grants Administrator Programme Sharepoint site.

If you have any queries, please contact Debbie.West-Lewis@admin.cam.ac.uk.

Equitable collaborations and partnerships checklist

Equitability in collaboration and partnership is increasingly recognised as a critical element for success, not least by research funders. Equitability is described by the UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR) as “Mutual participation, mutual trust and respect, mutual benefit and equal value placed on each partner’s contribution at all stages of the process”.

To help academics new to this type of work find the right information in an accessible form, the Strategic Partnerships Office has compiled a short and simple checklist to support colleagues to develop and describe equitability in their work. The prompts in the checklist are based on existing sources for good practise, and both the two page checklist and a list of links for further reading can be found on the International Engagement Hub.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Maja.Wallberg@admin.cam.ac.uk
