Researchfish Funder Submission - Deadline 16th March 2023

The deadline for Principal Investigators to submit their research outcomes into Researchfish is Thursday 16th March at 4pm for most major funders including UKRI, CRUK, BHF and NIHR. Funders have made it clear that strike days will not be accepted as a reason for non-submission. Reporting outcomes are a requirement of accepting an award and PIs who do not comply may be subject to sanctions from their funder.

Further information about Researchfish is available on the ROO website.

Extension of the UKRI Underwrite for Successful Horizon Europe Applications

The UKRI Underwrite has been further extended and will now cover successful Horizon Europe applications submitted to calls with a final submission deadline date on or before 30th June 2023. This will be needed in the event that a grant agreement cannot be signed with the European Commission or delegated party because the UK’s association has not been formalised in time, and therefore cannot receive funding. Previously, the guarantee funding covered calls with a final submission deadline date on or before 31st March 2023.

The eligibility status of UK entities for Horizon Europe has not changed. The UK is still a “candidate associate country” so our researchers can continue and are eligible to apply to Horizon Europe calls. UK applicants must apply for funding from the EU as beneficiaries and not as Associated Partners in order to be eligible for the UK government’s Horizon Europe funding guarantee. The change to Associated Partner status must only be made after the project has been assessed, at the point of preparing the EU grant agreement – assuming UK association has not taken place.

Association to EU programmes remains the UK’s preference, with the government’s priority to maintain support for the UK’s research and development sector during ongoing periods of uncertainty. UK entities remain eligible to apply for calls with deadlines after 30th June 2023 ahead of the UK's formal association to Horizon Europe.

University Response to a Public Consultation on the EU’s R&I Programmes

The online Public Consultation on the past, present and future of the European research and innovation programmes 2014-2027 called on research institutions, businesses and other organisations to reflect their views on the performance of the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes. This feedback will help shape future funding opportunities and R&I policies via the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027.

The ROO EU and International Team carried out an internal consultation process including views from PIs and administrative staff who have been involved with the Horizon Programmes. Based on our findings, we responded to the EC’s online survey and submitted an organisational response which is available on the ROO website

Do you use the University Finance System (CUFS) for Grant Expenditure?

The Finance Training team is undertaking a review of grants courses with a view to redesigning Grants 4 – Grants administration in CUFS.  We would like to survey all staff involved with using the University finance systems to monitor or manage their grants to gain your feedback on our courses and the current guidance available.  The aim is to identify whether you are being given the right information to help you be effective in your role and to ensure that our courses are meeting your needs.

We would really appreciate it if you could spare a few minutes to complete the survey by Monday 20th March.  Ultimately, the feedback you provide will help us to improve the grants courses in the future. Thank you in advance for your time and help with this project.

Recovering Costs for University Secure Research Computing Platform (SRCP) on Research Grants

When costing your project in X5, please put SRCP under the Non-staff tab as an ‘Other directly incurred’ type cost. Then specify in the description field how many years and how many studies the cost covers. The current rate is £700 per study per year. Input VAT can be left at zero rate since this is an internal charge.

Contact your Research Development Team at the Research Operations Office for any queries regarding SRCP that may arise during costing. For any general enquiries about the SRCP not related to costing please contact victoria.hollamby@admin.cam.ac.uk
