Christmas and New Year Deadlines for Applications and Expenditure Statements

Due to the Christmas vacation the Research Operations Office (ROO) will close from 5pm on Friday 23rd December 2022 and will re-open on Tuesday 3rd January 2023. Therefore, please be aware of the following deadlines and ensure that your researchers are made aware of these arrangements.

  • Final Expenditure Statements due over the Christmas closure period must be confirmed to ROO by Friday 25th November 2022. This is to allow statements to be submitted to the funder, prior to the Christmas closure.
  • If you have applications with a funder deadline in the first week of January, the 5 working day deadline is before Christmas. For example,
Funder deadline Friday 6th January 2023, 5pm
2 working day deadline Wednesday 4th January 2023, 5pm
5 working day dealine Thursday 22nd December 2022, 5pm

As a reminder, the ROO asks for a minimum of four weeks’ notice of the intention to submit to a particular scheme. Some funders have very short turnaround times which means that it's not always possible to give the ROO four weeks' notice of intention to submit. In these circumstances, please continue to contact us at the earliest opportunity so that we can assess the resource requirements to support the application. Full details of the deadline policy and the application deadline calculator can be found on the ROO website

Large Grant Contributions Fund

The University has a Large Grant Contributions Fund which provides financial contributions to large, collaborative grant applications. To be eligible for funding, the following criteria apply

  • Research grant applications for funding normally over £5M for STEM disciplines and over £2M for applications in Arts, Humanities and Social sciences subject areas can request financial contributions from this Fund.
  • All applications have to include one or more external partners.
  • Only applications led by Cambridge PIs are eligible.

Funding requests for activities that add value in areas such as widening participation and inclusion, improving partnerships, capability and capacity building, and similar are particularly encouraged and will be given priority. Applications which are being developed early in expectation of an upcoming funder call, can also request funding from this call.

Funding may be requested for activities that are complementary to the external funding and in addition to the financial and in-kind contributions to the bid from Departments / Schools / Non-school institutions. You can apply for a Financial contribution of up to 10% of the award. Further details including how to apply are available on the Large Grant Contributions Fund webpage
