New timesheet template now available
Over the last few weeks, we have been updating you about the timesheet requirements which the University needs to implement so that it can comply with audit requirements on UKRI funding (including Innovate UK). Part of this work has involved producing a new single timesheet template to be used for all funders. This supersedes the previous UKRI and EC timesheet templates and means that an individual only needs to complete one timesheet each month. The new template also helps administrators to calculate the salary elements to be charged to different grants through embedded formulas.
The new timesheet template is available on the ROO website. Guidance is embedded in the spreadsheet but is also available separately on the website. We will be providing further details about how to submit and store timesheets in a new SharePoint library w/c 25th July.
In order to meet our obligations to UKRI, we have also identified where departments can include additional information at the following points -
- at application stage for UKRI funding, if you are aware of any part-funded Directly Incurred (DI) staff costs, please fill in the notes section of the X5 with the reference "Task 89" and the name of the person if known or add "un-named post 1".
- if you are doing a manual salary journal in CUFS, add the employee number into the description field. This will enable ROO to accurately report the staff listings for the FES.

MSCA 2022 Postdoctoral Fellowship Calls
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) 2022 call is now open and the cribsheet is available on the ROO website. As usual, the MSCA PF submissions to ROO are treated as ‘Small Applications’ in line with the standard ROO submission policies.

There are two virtual Q&A sessions being run by the UKRO in their capacity as our National Contact Point for matters relating to MSCA grants.

The sessions will provide those applying for the upcoming 2022 Postdoctoral Fellowship call with an opportunity to discuss specific elements of their proposal. The sessions will focus on proposal development questions and will not go through eligibility issues.
UKRO has previously run a webinar giving a short overview of the UK immigration landscape, with more details on the Global Talent Visa. The slides from this presentation are available on the UKRO website. Please note that any individual requiring specific immigration advice must use an adviser approved through the Office of Immigration Services (OISC) or consult their internal HR / immigration team.
Applying to Horizon Europe
We are getting a lot of questions relating to whether MSCA applicants can apply through UK institutions. The current position is that the UK still hopes to associate to Horizon Europe (HE) and UK institutions are still able to apply to Horizon Europe calls. However, we are mindful that the UK’s lack of association is causing concern.
The UKRI Guarantee Funding covers the HE Calls for which the last legal date for signing the Grant Agreement is expected to pass before 31 December 2022. Therefore, the most recent MSCA 2022 call is not currently in this list. On 20th July 2022, the UK Government announced a package of measures to support transition to a new R&D Programme if association is not formalised. These include an extension of current UKRI guarantee guidance covering applications to Horizon Europe and third country participation.
UKRI have confirmed to us that UK entities can continue to apply for the MSCA call as ‘normal’ and if we do not associate, the scope of the guarantee will be expanded to cover any remaining UK applications that have been submitted to a call. Under these circumstances, applicants will be asked to re-submit their existing applications to UKRI, with some additional details.
RGUG Meeting 14th July 2022 - recording and presentations now available
Thank you to those who were able to attend the Research Grants User Group Meeting (RGUG) on 14th July. The recording and slides are now available to view to the ROO website. The meeting included presentations on the Sustainable Business Travel Guidelines, Transforming Research Support, Timesheets Process for Research Grants and Horizon Europe Updates.
