Changes to Funder Open Access Requirements

All research articles which arise from Wellcome, Gates or Templeton funding submitted for publication after 1 January 2021 are required to be made available with a CC BY license at the time of publication. Grant funding can no longer be used to pay open access charges in ‘hybrid’ journals that include a mixture of open access and paywalled content (it remains possible to pay for publication in fully open access journals). This is a change from previous policies and applies to current as well as future grants. Compliance is a condition of grant funding and will be monitored by the funders. Other funders are expected to make similar policy changes over the coming year.

For full details of funders' Plan S implementation plans with links to the details of their Open Access requirements, go to the Coalition S website. Support is also available for University Cambridge staff and students through the Open Access Team by emailing info@openaccess.cam.ac.uk

Researchfish Funder Submission 2021

The annual submission period for UKRI, NIHR, BHF and other funders is 1st February to 11th March 2021 during which time PIs can use their Researchfish account to submit a return on their research outputs. Links made in Symplectic Elements to Researchfish grants will be uploaded to Researchfish prior to the submission window.

The University is considering adopting an institution-wide position on the priority that should be given to the February/March 2021 Researchfish submission period, due to significant concerns over the capacity of PIs and Department/Research Office staff to contribute to the data collection process at this time. Discussions are being held with other Russell Group institutions on this issue and a further announcement will be made as soon as possible.

Reminder - New Swift CDA Service

The new swift service for CDAs (Confidential Disclosure Agreement) was launched last month for PIs to use with one external party. CDAs should be used with a potential collaborator before discussions take place. To access the Contracts Services Section of the Research Grant Administration SharePoint Site you need to be logged into Office 365 Online with your CRSID and Raven password.
