Wellcome Trust Policy Updates

The Wellcome Trust have made some policy changes including

  1. laboratory gloves can now be requested on grant applications and charged to existing grants. Further details are available from their website under the section ”Materials and consumables costs”

  2. updating their bullying and harassment policy to set out how organisations are expected handle cases of misconduct on projects that they fund. Further details are available from the Wellcome Trust website.

Due Diligence Updates

The Research Office have updated their due diligence process, which aims to offer a more robust service, delivering a closer level of scrutiny as well as quicker turnaround times for departments.  To mitigate the risk posed to the University, the Due Diligence Team undertakes reputational, ethical and financial assessments on new potential funders and collaborators at application stage.

When completing the new funder / collaborator form

For a new funder set up

For new collaborator requests

Research funders are increasingly asking universities to undertake a more thorough process of due diligence when it comes to sub-awarding funds overseas. The main aim is to demonstrate that the PIs and the University have assurance that international research partners can demonstrate their ability to deliver the proposed research and have appropriate governance and financial controls. For Global Challenges Research Fund applications, please advise the Due Diligence Team who you are proposing to collaborate with as early as possible.

For further information please see the updated guidance on the ROO website.
