Node Administrator Workshops for ResearchFish – 21st November 2018

The RCUK submission period for Researchfish will be the 4th February to 14th March 2019. In preparation for the submission period, the Research Office is running a workshop for node administrators and other administrative staff involved in ResearchFish. The session will cover

  • the process for checking awards

  • response codes guidance

  • how to use Researchfish

Research Grants User Group Meeting - 29th November 2018

The next Research Grants User Group (RGUG) meeting will be held on Thursday 29th November, 2pm – 3.30pm at the Institute of Public Health, Forvie Site, Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Research Operations Office Christmas Closure

Due to the Christmas vacation the Research Operations Office (ROO) will close from 5pm on Friday 21st December 2018 and will re-open on Wednesday 2nd January 2019.  

Therefore if you have applications with funder deadlines over the Christmas and New Year period, please note that the newly introduced deadlines for submitting research grant applications to ROO are based upon working days.                

Funder Deadlines between Saturday 22nd Dec 2018 – Tuesday 1st Jan 2019

7 Working days before funder deadline

Wednesday 12th December 2018

5 Working days before funder deadline

Friday 14th December 2018

1 Working day before funder deadline

Thursday 20th December 2018

In addition to these usual deadlines, due the ROO Christmas Closure please note the following additional requirements.

  • For funder deadlines on Wednesday 2nd January 2019, applications that need be at the ROO 1 working day before the funder deadline, should arrive by Thursday 20th December 2018.
  • Final Expenditure Statements for RCUK awards over the Christmas period must be confirmed to the Research Operations Office by Friday 30th November 2018. This is to allow Final Expenditure Statements to be submitted prior to the Office Christmas closure, as the due date will not be extended by RCUK.

Please ensure that your PIs are made aware of these arrangements.

Research Administrators Programme 2019

The Research Operations Office Training Strategy (ROOTS Tier 2) consists of three morning sessions offering a mix of skills development and knowledge transfer. Topics will cover applying & managing grants including EU projects, understanding contracts and audit requirements. Following feedback from previous delegates, the programme will now run twice a year, once during the Lent Term and again during Michaelmas Term.

The programme is aimed at staff who play an active role in the Grants Lifecycle and Research Contracts process and who have been in post for a minimum of three months. For further details and to apply, please complete the expression of interest form including nomination by your Department Administrator or Line Manager. Applications should be emailed to Debbie.West-Lewis@admin.cam.ac.uk by 4th December 2018.

New Feature on ROO Website

The Research Operations Office www.research-operations.admin.cam.ac.uk/ website now includes a new feature on the home page to help Researchers and Administrative staff navigate through the grants lifecycle. We have been working with the User Experience Team in UIS to bring together information and tools into one place. There are also feedback buttons on the website and we would encourage you to use these to let us know your views and make suggestions regarding the updated website.  

 

New CRUK Policy on Dignity at Work in Research and Grant Conditions updates

Cancer Research UK has published a Policy on Dignity at Work in Research to help tackle bullying and harassment in research.  This includes

  • Host Institutions funded by CRUK must have an effective workplace conduct policy
  • Host Institutions must disclose any active formal disciplinary findings for bullying and harassment against applicants
  • Host Institutions must notify CRUK of formal investigations into CRUK researchers
  • Where a finding of bullying or harassment is upheld against a participant, CRUK may apply their own sanctions independently of any set by the Host Institution
