Researchfish system for collecting Research Outcomes

Researchfish is a harmonised research outcomes gathering system used by an increasing number of UK funders including all seven Research Councils. Submitted outcomes inform the case for further funding.

Entries can be made throughout the year, but must be submitted during the collection periods specified on the Researchfish website. Submission is mandatory during the lifetime of the award and for several years after its end (depending on funders’ conditions). Non-compliance may result in sanctions. For more details please refer to the ROO website.

Researchfish submission for Arthritis Research UK – deadline 1 Dec 2015

Outcomes for research funded by Arthritis Research UK have to be submitted by 1 Dec 2015.

Please login to Researchfish to report results- even if no new results have been obtained. Failure to submit research outcomes may result in sanctions.

Researchfish submission for Cancer Research UK (CRUK)

CRUK requires all eligible funded researchers to submit their research outputs annually via Researchfish during the lifetime of the award, and for three years after its end. Researchers are contacted directly if they are required to submit. Please inform CRUK of any changes in contact details or circumstances (e.g. maternity leave).

If Researchfish submission falls below the full compliance rate CRUK can enforce financial sanctions on host institutions.

The next CRUK Researchfish submission period will take place between 1 February - 10 March 2016.

Changes to grant management arrangements of Wellcome Trust from December 2015

  1. Wellcome Trust will no longer be ring-fencing any budgets on their conventional grants. Grant holders will be able to move funds into and out of budgets, but any significant transfer of funds between cost headings must be agreed with Wellcome Trust. For more information regarding managing grant budgets please refer to the website of Wellcome Trust.
  1. Wellcome Trust are clarifying their arrangements for closing grant accounts (and if necessary writing back funds), and introducing new processes to ensure all conventional grant accounts are closed within seven months of the grant end date (unless in agreed exceptional circumstances). For more information on closing grants please refer to the website of Wellcome Trust.

Further guidance will be provided as soon as Research Operations have had time to consider how these changes might affect departments and grant holders.

Christmas/New Year Closing Dates and Application/Expenditure Statement Deadlines

Research Operations will close for the Christmas/New Year break on Thursday, 24 December 2015.

In order to help us manage new work received, or with deadlines falling during this period of closure and during the first week in January 2016 (which is a very busy period), please ensure that your PIs are made aware of the following:

  • Applications with a funder deadline falling between Wednesday, 23 December 2015 and Monday, 4 January 2016 inclusive should reach Research Operations by Tuesday, 15 December 2015.
  • Applications with a funder deadline between Tuesday 5 January and Friday 8th January 2016 should reach Research Operations by Thursday, 17 December 2015.

Final expenditure on RCUK awards due over the Christmas period must be confirmed to Research Operations by Tuesday, 15 December 2015 latest.  This is to allow Final Expenditure Statements to be submitted prior to the Christmas/New Year break, as the due date will not be extended by RCUK.

Relocation of the Research Operations Office from Mill Lane to Greenwich House

Research Operations Office’s last day at Mill Lane will be Thursday 24th December, and from January 2016 we shall be situated in new offices at Greenwich House.

This relocation is a major operation and therefore Research Operations will be closed on Monday, 4 January to allow our staff sufficient time to fully settle in, organise files, test IT systems etc.  Research Operations will therefore officially re-open for business on Tuesday, 5 January.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please note that the Clinical School Grants Team will continue to be based at the Clinical School and will reopen on the 4 January 2016.
