ROOTS Tier 2 Research Administrators Programme 2016

The Research Operations Office is embarking on a new round of our ROOTS (Research Operations Office Training Strategy) Tier 2 (2016) Research Administrators Programme.We invite submissions from all staff who have been in post for a minimum of six months and play an active role in the Grants Lifecycle and Research Contracts process within the University

The Programme will run over six months on the following dates in 2016

  • Tuesday 23 February

  • Tuesday 15 March

  • Tuesday 12 April

  • Tuesday 17 May

  • Tuesday 14 June

  • Tuesday 12 July

Delegates will need to be available for all six sessions.

Application Process

1.Complete the Expression of Interest Form which can be found on the Research Operations Office website http://www.research-operations.admin.cam.ac.uk/about-us/events/roots-tie... This form requires the endorsement of your Departmental Administrator or Line Manager.

2.Email the form to Debbie.West-Lewis@admin.cam.ac.uk by 2nd November 2015.

3.The final 15 will be chosen by the Assistant Directors within the Research Operations Office and successful candidates will be informed by 16th November 2015.

X5 Training Dates 2016

The Research Operations Office is again offering X5 training and would like to invite departmental staff, both academic and administrative, who are required to generate costings for themselves, or for their departments, to attend one of these events. The content will include; using the Project Wizard to generate a costing, adding staff and non-staff costs, the differences between copying to a draft or new record, printing reports and other essential knowledge required to produce an accurate costing.

Delegates: 9 available places for each session

Venue: All training will be held at 17 Mill Lane UIS Computer Room

Time: 9:00am to 12:30pm

  • Thursday 17th March 2016

RCUK Funding Assurance Programme Audit

RCUK will conduct a Funding Assurance Programme (FAP) visit from Monday the 23rd to Wednesday the 25th November 2015.The RCUK Funding Assurance Strategy will test compliance with the terms and conditions across  four pillars of assurance:

  • Research Grants and Fellowships

  • Doctoral Training funding

  • Transparent Approach to Costing (TRAC)

  • Non-Financial terms and conditions

In order to assist Departments

in preparing for the audit a series of workshops will be held. These workshops are aimed at  Departmental Administrators and Research Support Staff. These will take place on:
