As many of you will now be aware, it was announced yesterday (Thursday 7th September) that the Government and the European Commission have agreed in principle on the UK’s association to the Horizon Europe and Copernicus programmes under the Trade and Co-operation Agreement (TCA). What now remains to be done is for the relevant protocol in the TCA to be signed, which will allow the UK to formally associate to Horizon Europe from 1st January 2024.
For Horizon Europe 2023 Work Programme identifier calls, you can continue to apply to Horizon Europe calls as beneficiaries and if successful, all 2023 Work Programme call topics will be funded under the UKRI Guarantee Funding.
For Horizon Europe 2024 Work Programme identifier calls, you will be able to apply for and obtain EU funding, and crucially lead projects.
How to identify if a call is funded by the UKRI Guarantee Funding or Horizon Europe
Look at the call identifier, as this will specify the year of the relevant work programme. For example,
- identifier HORIZON-MSCA-2023-PF-01 will be covered by the UKRI guarantee scheme
- identifier HORIZON-ERC-2024-STG will be funded directly by the EC through Horizon Europe if successful
The EU Team will provide further updates as more information becomes available from UKRI and the UK Government.
If you have a current application submitted under a Horizon Europe 2023 Work Programme identifier call (or calls from previous work programmes) which has been successful, you should continue liaising with your ROO School Research Development team to continue your UKRI guarantee funding application.
