The Research Grant User Group (RGUG) meeting is led by the Research Operations Office and is an open forum where research grant administration issues and developments are discussed. The next meeting will take place as follow

Underwriting of EU Research Projects - Action Required
In the case of a no deal Brexit, the UK government has committed to underwrite the funds of all active EU grants and bids submitted until exit day. Information and updates on the underwrite can be found here. Further guidance is still to be published, but we anticipate the University needing to finalise all the financial reporting of active EU grants (approx. 400) in a short space of time soon after the 31st October 2019.
In preparation for that, we are therefore asking that all departments in receipt of EU funds take the necessary steps to ensure the following actions are completed by 10th October 2019:
• Ensure all relevant expenditure is posted to EC grants
• Relevant documents (for example, timesheets and invoices) are completed and available
• Outstanding queries are clarified
• Pending amendments are finalised
This will enable the Research Operations Office to plan and implement the transition from EU into national funding as efficiently as possible. The University is monitoring negotiations and government announcements closely, and will post these to the Universities’ main Brexit website.
Open Access Monographs: from policy to reality – 2nd October 2019
The Office of Scholarly Communication (OSC) is pleased to announce the programme for the one-day symposium on “Open Access monographs: from policy to reality”.

This one-day symposium will explore the policies, economics and future directions of Open Monograph publishing. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss innovations in the sector, share their enthusiasms and concerns about current developments, and learn more about the opportunities for and realities of publishing an open access book.
Keynote speakers include
- Professor Martin Eve (Birbeck, University of London)
- Professor Margot Finn (President of the Royal Historical Society)
The panel discussions are comprised by representatives from Research England, The Wellcome Trust, academic experts on the subject as well as various publishing houses. The panel discussions will aim to create a forum for researchers to express the challenges and benefits they foresee if open access monographs.
ROO Open Day – 21st November 2019
The Research Operations Office is inviting you to our Open Day on Thursday 21st November 2019 at Greenwich House, Madingley Road. Sessions will include drop-ins, work stations and workshops that allow mutual sharing of experience and approaches between Research Office and Departments in topical areas of grant administration including contracts, costing and pricing, risk management, use of systems, etc. If there are any particular subjects you would like to discuss or have any questions, please get in touch with Ekaterina.Gorkowienko@admin.cam.ac.uk. EPSRC Responsible Innovation Framework
EPSRC is raising the profile of Responsible Innovation (RI) and enhancing RI culture from the CDT level upwards. The Framework for Responsible Innovation outlines considerations of risk, regulation, ethics, purposes and impacts of innovation in research and provides a structure of support and expectations for the Research Community. An advisory working group and project have been established to support these goals, and all researchers are encouraged to demonstrate awareness and commitment to the principles of Responsible Innovation.
