The “General information” section of the Administrative forms (Part A) for Horizon 2020 contains a series of declarations that must be ticked before the application is submitted for it to pass through the portal validation system. Therefore a Letter of Intent is required for any multi-beneficiary calls and a Letter of Commitment is needed for Marie Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN) and Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE).
Letters of Intent
These are required for proposals where multi-beneficiaries are involved.
Where Cambridge is coordinator
Before ticking the series of declarations, the Cambridge Principal Investigator should ensure that all beneficiaries have signed and returned their Letter of Intent.
Where Cambridge is a beneficiary
The Principal Investigator should contact the Research Operations Office and ensure that a Letter of Intent is signed by the authorised Cambridge representative to send to the co-ordinator. The co-ordinator will collate these Letters of Intent from all beneficiaries and then will be in a position to tick the series of declarations.
In both cases, the Research Operations Office recommends that the letter drafted by Cambridge is sent to the coordinator.

Letters of Commitment
These are required for partner organisations who are participating in the project but do not sign the Grant Agreement and are not eligible for funding. A Letter of Commitment must be submitted to demonstrate their real and active participation in the proposed project and needs to be further described in Part B of the application. Here is a template of a letter of Commitment.
