UK Research and Innovation terms and conditions set out requirements to be followed by every grant holder and their host institution.  The obligations range from general policies such as

  • ethics
  • research misconduct
  • adoption of RCUK concordats on public engagement

as well as more detailed processes required for managing grants, such as

  • grant transfers
  • data management
  • research output submissions
  • expenditure statements

Whilst some of the obligations may never impact individual grant holders, many will, and so it is essential that grant holders are aware of the terms to help the University ensure compliance and avoid financial sanctions.

UK Research and Innovation publishes core terms applicable to all Research Council funded grants.  These Grant Conditions are available here:

Grant conditions relating to training grants contain specific procedures for students and are also available via the link above.

In addition to the UKRI Grant Conditions, each Research Council has its own set of terms and conditions, guidance for applicants and grant holders and these can be found through the links below to Councils' websites:

EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council)

Note that extra conditions may sometimes be imposed on particular grants and where so these will be set out in the award letter.
