European Research Council (ERC) Webinar – 2026 Calls
The ERC has introduced some novelties in the 2026 Work Programme and has scheduled an online webinar about what to expect in the 2026 calls. The session will include how these changes affect the submission of applications and evaluation of proposals for the upcoming Starting, Consolidator and Advanced Grants calls.

Changes to the ERC evaluation procedures and how to provide feedback
The ERC Scientific Council has decided to introduce a set of improvements in the 2026 and 2027 calls for proposals. In a newly published document, Maria Leptin, the ERC President explains the changes, the reasoning behind them and how they are designed to strengthen the ERC evaluation process. Further details are available on the ERC website including how you can provide feedback on the changes.
ERC Synergy Grant 2026
Information about the Synergy Grant 2026 is now available on the ROO website, this includes webinar recordings, links and a crib sheet. The deadlines are as follows

Tailored grant application support
If you need grant application support or advice accessing institutional funds for large collaborative grants or bid preparation, the Research Strategy Office can help you with the following –
- Grant application support which is tailored to the needs of the application. This can include project management of bid preparation, organising internal peer review and practice interview panels, providing non-academic perspective and review etc. For more information, please contact researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk
- Large Grant Contributions Fund provides financial contributions for large collaborative grants. This can either be where the application is led by Cambridge or where Cambridge is a major partner. For more information, please contact rpc@admin.cam.ac.uk
- University’s Bid Preparation Fund provides awards of up to £10k for development of large collaborative research grant applications. For advice about a prospective application to the Fund, please contact researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk
Wellcome Trust Organisation Spend Report – Departmental expenditure checks
An Organisational Spend Report (OSR) is submitted quarterly to the Wellcome Trust (WT) by the Research Operations Office (ROO) for the months of March, June, September and December. Before ROO submits the next OSR, please could Departments check and verify all their WT expenditure on CUFS and make any amendments before the September 2025 General Ledger period closes.
