Help us improve the Cambridge Research Office websites

We’re transforming 12 Cambridge Research website into 2 - designed with you in mind. We’re aiming to offer a clearer, more user-focused online experience for researchers, professional services staff, collaborators, and funders - starting with improved content and navigation. But we can’t do it without your help.

We’re running an online study to check the proposed website navigation. If you are University of Cambridge staff involved in research or research administration we’d love for you to be involved. Your feedback will shape the new design.

  • No login needed
  • Works on your phone or laptop
  • Takes less than 10 minutes
  • Open until 2 July 2025

Let’s build something better - together. Click here to start the study Got a question? Email: contentdesign@uis.cam.ac.uk.

Journal Negotiations: Town Halls

Negotiations are taking place to establish new agreements for 2026 with five of the major journal publishers – Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, and Sage. The outcome of these negotiations may affect how you read and publish research, and we want to hear from you.

Find out more about what’s happening, what we’re asking for and why, and let us know your views.

All welcome. The views of the University’s academic and research community at all levels are vital. For more information, visit our webpage, which will be kept up to date throughout the process.

Updated REF2029 Open Access Policy and the easy way for researchers to meet requirements

Research England has open access requirements for the Research Excellence Framework (REF2029). These apply to journal articles and conference proceedings published after 1 January 2021, with tighter requirements applying to items published from 1 January 2026.

University advice and guidance hasn't changed: the University is committed to the principles of open research and expects all publications to be submitted to the Open Access Service. Researchers can meet both the current and tighter requirements by depositing research outputs in the institutional repository Apollo. You’ll find the 3 steps to follow, along with more information on the REF policy changes and why Open Research matters on the REF2029 at Cambridge SharePoint.

REF is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. Research England allocates funding based on the outcome. Funding from REF, and from other funders, relies on us making our world-leading research available to all.

If you have any queries please contact Ref2029@admin.cam.ac.uk.
