Presentation on ERC Advanced Grants & ERC Synergy Grants – Tuesday 13 December 2011

The Advanced Grants Call opened on 16 November 2011 with deadlines in Spring 2012 and the first ever Synergy Grants Call opened on 25 October 2011 and closes on 25 January 2012.

The UK Research Office (UKRO based in Brussels) will be holding an information session in Cambridge for researchers who are interested in applying for the ERC Advanced Grants or ERC Synergy Grants. The 2 hour session will take place on Tuesday 13 December, Room 1 Mill Lane Lecture Rooms at 1.30pm and will include the opportunity to ask questions.

The session aims to provide an understanding of the proposal format and the key issues applicants are required to address in planning, writing and costing a proposal. We would strongly encourage attendance at this event by all PIs planning to submit a proposal for these two calls and DAs who will be involved with the application process.

Please note that this session will be identical to the events being held by UKRO during December in London, Edinburgh and Manchester, so you only need attend one presentation. If you are interested in attending the session on 13 December, it would be helpful, though not essential if you could email Naomi.morris@admin.cam.ac.uk

Engineering Instrument Pool

The Research Office would like to remind departments about the ‘Engineering Instrument Pool’ that is managed by the STFC Energy Research Unit on behalf of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The Instrument Pool consists of portable research instruments available for short-term (1-3 months) loan to research grant and studentship holders. Preference is given to first grant holders and the service is free of charge to those supported through any EPSRC and BBSRC grant, however other members of the UK academic community are also able to apply to use the Pool.

When instruments are loaned, they are transported to the user and advice given regarding how to use the equipment. It is then the responsibility of user to apply the instrument to their own work and to operate it whilst on loan. Further details are available on the following websites http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/funding/facilities/equipment/Pages/enginstpool.aspx and http://www.eip.rl.ac.uk/
