As discussed at this week’s RGUG, different institutions are taking different approaches to managing top slices pro-rated to subcontractor budgets funded by Research Council grants prompting us to review our own approach. As a result, instead of passing on subcontractor top slices exceeding £1,000 per annum via amendments to subcontractor budgets, we will pass on only top slices exceeding £10k per institution and this will be done at a higher institutional level, i.e. outside individual grants. The University Chest will absorb outgoing top slices falling below the threshold. The top slice postings on subcontractor tasks will therefore be reversed out and the budgets will remain as they were set originally and no amendment to the subcontract will be made.
