Research Operations Office

As a result of COVID-19 and its impact on the economy, the UK government has decided to reduce the funds available for Official Development Assistance (ODA). The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s (BEIS) ODA allocation to UKRI has been reduced significantly by £120 million representing a 40-60 per cent of development-funded research activity.

The Research Office has been notified of cuts to some UKRI funded GCRF and Newton grants where the PI is at Cambridge and we have been supporting Departments in recosting these awards in order to maximise the outcomes achieved. Where the award is held at another Institution, PIs may be contacted directly and asked to reprofile expenditure. Please work with your Departmental Administration and inform the Research Office Team  where these cuts to the budget have been requested.

Professor Stephen Toope, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge has responded to the reduction in research budgets and his article can be found on the University News pages.
